NEWS: JULY 2019

Google is expected to pay a multi-million dollar fine to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for YouTube violating federal data privacy laws for children. The fine relates to a video-streaming service that inadequately protected children’s privacy and collected their data. To read the article click here.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has published its 2018/2019 Annual Report which covers the year to 31 March 2019. This is the first annual report since the GDPR came into effect. To access the report click here. I have written a summary of the findings.

The ICO issued a notice of the intention to fine British Airways £183 million for a security breach in June 2018, which was not reported until September 2018. The breach affected around 500,000 BA website users. The proposed fine constitutes 1.5% of the company’s worldwide turnover for 2017. To see the notice click here.

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has released its ‘Guidelines on the processing of personal data through video devices’, which covers CCTV, dashcams, private security videos and mobile phone cameras. For the guidelines click here.
